When you start planning your home extension or renovation project, you’ll meet a range of professionals — and it can be confusing to know who does what.
Here’s a quick guide:
Designer: creates the design, layout, visuals, and coordinates/ prepares drawings for planning & building warrants.
Structural Engineer: designs the structural elements so it’s safe & meets regulations.
Quantity Surveyor (QS): estimates costs, helps with tendering & budgeting.
Builder / Contractor: carries out the construction work.
Building Control / Inspector: checks the work complies with regulations at key stages.
A good designer coordinates all these roles — and helps keep everyone on the same page.
